Date, Banana, Almond Milk Salted Caramel Smoothie

I will claim this as a Beach Kitchen household recipe although it is firmly attributable to my other/ better half and not me. As a person with a sweet tooth inclined to add honey and cinnamon to smoothies, I was initially sceptical about the addition of salt.  However, a small pinch of salt subtly brings out the flavour of the dates in this delicious, healthy drink that is great for a breakfast or snack on the go!

Ingredients  (for 1 – 2  person serve)

  1. 3-4 fresh medjool dates
  2. 1/2 large banana
  3. 3/4 cup almond milk
  4. Pinch of salt  (Today I used pink Himalayan salt. But another favourite of mine is Maldon – http://www.maldonsalt.co.uk/).

Method

Pit the dates, slice the banana and add into a stand blender or stick blender glass. If using a stand blender, combine all ingredients (except salt) and blend, add pinch of salt, stir with a spoon and serve.

If using a stick blender, add 1/2 cup of the almond milk, blend, then top with the remaining almond milk and blend again. Add salt, stir and serve.
